Good Scholars for Excellence
Background and Guidelines
Good Scholars for Excellence is an undergraduate research fellowship established in 2025 by Dr. Robert and Brenda Good to enhance research opportunities and resources for University Honors students with majors in biology, nursing, audiology/speech-language pathology, kinesiology, science education, and other pre-health programs. Fellows will gain valuable research experience, mentorship, and support to prepare them for successful careers in their chosen fields.
Eligibility and Funding
Ideally, students will apply in their second year to access funding and support for up to four semesters plus a summer research experience. However, given the multiple pathways and timelines to graduation, students should apply whenever their research interests align with the intent of the fellowship. The scholarship will be renewable for a maximum of four semesters with satisfactory research progress and maintenance of active student standing in the University Honors Program (including GPA of 3.30 or higher).
- Each recipient can receive up to $12,000 toward their undergraduate studies ($2000 scholarship per semester for up to four semesters, plus one $4000 stipend for a 10-week summer research experience).
- Each fellow can apply for up to an additional $2,000 of support for research supplies, travel for presentations, and necessary equipment.
- Faculty mentors will be provided a stipend of up to $2000 per student to support their guidance and involvement.

Submit the fellowship application and supporting materials by Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

- Title the documents that you will be submitting on the application as follows: Last name, first name_document type (i.e. research, impact, transcript) to ensure that they are attached to the appropriate record.
- Request that references noted in your application send letters of recommendation directly to jessica.moon@uni.edu (Director of Honors & Scholars Programs).

Good Scholars Selection Committee
The fellowship selection committee consists of three faculty members or department heads from science or pre-health disciplines. Fellowships are administered by UNI Honors & Scholars Programs.
