The Honors & Scholars Programs at UNI provide programming, mentoring and support both inside and outside the classroom for students of exceptional motivation and potential. Students are encouraged to choose the program pathway that most closely fits with their unique qualifications, interests and educational goals.

 

Position Title: Graduate Assistant for Student Engagement 

Reports to: Jessica Moon, Director (jessica.moon@uni.edu

Semesters of employment available: Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 

General Terms of Employment: 

  • For the fall semester, 20 hours per week, beginning August 21, 2023 and ending  December 15, 2023. 
  • For the spring semester, 20 hours per week, beginning January 8, 2024 and ending May  3, 2024. 

Compensation: 

  • Graduate Assistantship stipend is $5,558.00 per semester and may be prorated  depending on start date
  • Graduate Assistants may qualify for in-state tuition and fees 
  • Graduate Assistants may receive University holidays and do not work during the interims between semesters

Position Duties: 

This assistantship will provide an opportunity for a student to gain experience in a variety of aspects of program administration. The graduate assistant will acquire knowledge regarding the overall workings of Honors & Scholars Programs including programming, publicity, recruitment, scholarship selection, program requirements, course selection and scheduling, student advising, and various other administrative responsibilities.  Specific graduate assistant responsibilities will include: 

  • Planning and implementing co-curricular and extra-curricular programming for Honors & Scholars Programs with some assistance of student leaders. 
  • Advising student groups with particular duties such as attending meetings, encouraging increased student engagement in program activities, and providing supervision for selected programs and events.  
  • Representing Honors & Scholars Programs at recruitment events. 
  • Assisting the Honors & Scholars Director in developing and implementing tools for program assessment. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Honors & Scholars Director.

General Qualifications: 

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNI's residential graduate program.
  • Be regularly admitted without provisions to degree status in a graduate degree program.  
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.  First semester graduate students must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00.
  • Have an official transcript on file in the Office of Admissions and be fully declared in their graduate major.
  • Must meet UNI's HRS employment eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Preference will be given to applicants who exhibit strong interpersonal skills, proficiency in written and oral communication, as well as time management and organizational abilities.

Position Title:  Legacy Scholars Graduate Assistant

For the fall semester, 10 hours per week, beginning August 21, 2023 and ending  December 15, 2023. 

For the spring semester, 10 hours per week, beginning January 8, 2024 and ending May  3, 2024. 

Compensation: 

  • Graduate Assistantship stipend for a part-time GA is $2,779.00 per semester and may be prorated depending on start date
  • Graduate Assistants may qualify for in-state tuition and fees 
  • Graduate Assistants may receive University holidays and do not work during the interims between semesters

Position Duties:

Legacy Scholars targets underrepresented junior- and senior-level students who have a strong commitment to their education and are interested in pursuing post-baccalaureate opportunities.  This assistantship will provide an opportunity for a graduate student to gain experience in a variety of aspects surrounding program creation and administration.  The graduate assistant will acquire knowledge of publicity, recruitment, scholars selection, program requirements, student advising, programming, and various other administrative responsibilities.  Specific responsibilities of this position include:

  • Create programming with an emphasis on community building and graduate program preparedness.
  • Coordinate with various UNI student support offices to identify and recruit approximately 20 underrepresented junior-level students who demonstrate strong academic potential.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly seminars and individual mentoring sessions.
  • Connect students with faculty members in their respective discipline to talk about appropriate next steps for post-baccalaureate goals.
  • Assist students in identifying a summer experience related to their desired career field.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNI graduate program (Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field is preferred).
  • Must be enrolled in 9 graduate credits each semester of assistantship. 
  • Maintain a UNI cumulative graduate GPA of at least 3.00. A newly admitted graduate student must have at least a 3.0 GPA for undergraduate or previous graduate work of at least 8 graded credit hours. 
  • Exhibit proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Strong management and organizational skills. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with underrepresented populations.
